Water Jet Technologies
Our water jet is capable of slicing into metal or other materials (such as granite) using just water and an abrasive. The process is essentially the same as water erosion found in nature but greatly accelerated and concentrated. It works on a variety of materials thick or thin, and produces no harmful fumes or toxic by products. RCR Fabrication recycles all of the 'waste' sand into concrete with the help of Las Animas. Water jet cutting is a great alternative to laser or plasma cutting, especially when the materials being cut are sensitive to high temperatures, as the water jet leaves heat affected zone (HAZ) and won't warp the material being cut. Versatile and green, water jet cutting has found applications in a diverse number of industries from mining to aerospace, from art pieces to repairs and restorations. Our cutting services will deliver high precision cuts whether you want a run of 1 part or 1,001 parts.
What can a water jet cut?
Here at RCR we have put our water jet through it's paces cutting a multitude of different materials, metal being the most common, but also wood, paper, rubber, foam, fiberglass, acrylic, granite, marble, limestone, tool steel, tile and plastic. Pretty much the only things we can't cut are tempered glass, diamonds, and certain types of ceramic.

Water jet vs laser or plasma cutting
- Water jet machines can cut many materials that lasers cannot, such as aluminum, copper and brass and all "mirror finished" materials.
- Whereas laser and plasma cutters create burned hardened edges, there is no thermal distortion, warping or work hardening of the material being cut by water jet, and it leaves a cleaner edge.
- Water jets are ideal for thicker materials, holding the same tolerances as lasers on thin materials, and higher tolerances on parts thicker than 0.5"; up to 13" thick or thicker in special applications. Lasers have a maximum of about 0.5" - 0.75" for mild steel.
- While lasers are often faster on thinner materials, waterjets can stack materials, so you are cutting multiple thin parts simultaneously. Bigger orders save money on price per part as well as turn around time per part.
- Great for cutting uneven surfaces.
- The water jet is a 'green' techonology! There are no harmful by products, toxic fumes, and the 'waste' sand can be recycled into cement, adobe, and more!

- Material and thickness - what would you like your part(s) cut from? Please include the thickness of material as it affects the cost of the cut.
- Dimensions of your part - we must have physical measurements in order to generate an accurate quote. You can fax measurements to us, come in and draw them out or submit files, please be sure the measurements are clearly marked.
- Files - please submit a 1:1 .dxf of your part. If you do not have a .dxf we would be happy to create one for you from .pdf or .ai files (layout charges apply).
- Any special handling or proccessing instructions, as well as any questions or concerns you may have.
